Two types of Leadership
There are two types of leadership that fall into four categories:
1. Fertile leaders: Fertile leaders are leaders with fruit. Fruitfulness in this sense does refer to both character and competence in leadership. Either one of these metrics is not suitable enough to measure fruitfulness in leadership.
Productivity in leadership is enduring when the heart and the hands work in harmony.
Fertile leaders aspire for altitude in performance with altruism in their leadership. This is why leadership is not a relay race but a marathon. Infact speed alone would not get you to the finish line without being steady.
Steadiness requires certain qualities such as persistence, patience and perseverance to end well.
Fertile leaders have the seed of leadership which is the leadership spirit. This is the inherent leadership potential within every genuine leader. It is evidenced by a genuine purpose established by a discovery of one's self. This is the foundation for true leadership at any level.
2. Sterile leaders: These are unfruitful leaders without the leadership spirit. These are those in positions of leadership for selfish purposes. A major cause of sterility in leadership is being unequipped and unprepared for a leadership position.
Unequipped refers to the absence of the leadership spirit evidenced by a genuine purpose and unpreparedness is the lack of the attitude of leadership.
It is the inherent leadership potential that enables a leader to cultivate the attitude of leadership.
Hence sterile leaders lack the character that sustains leadership.
We would further discuss the four categories of leaders under these two types of leadership.
