Identity discovery for personal leadership
Leadership is a  process that begins with self discovery. The path to self discovery requires that a leader discover his identity through personal encounters. Self discovery is the first phase in the journey of leadership as leaders discover the truth about themselves.
A sense of identity is essential for leadership development as true leadership begins with leading one's self.
An individual's effectiveness in personal leadership is a prerequisite for people leadership, hence to attain higher levels in leadership, one must discover their true self.

Self discovery
The first phase of our leadership journey begins with self discovery. I believe one must observe their hobbies at this initial phase as they are a pointer to one's inherent gifts.
For some of us, the passion for writing letters and poetry was the first clue to our writing discovery which we pursued until life happened to us. 
The happenings of life may be failure or temporary setbacks that causes us to abandon our gifts and talents. If only we understood that it's a transition, we would persevere into the next phase of the journey.
The self discovery phase is sealed when we have a conviction of who we are and not just what we do to make money. This discovery is a new perspective about our passion and purpose that brings the success we have being looking for, most times in the wrong places.I

I also believe good friends can be instrumental in helping us resolve this phase of self discovery by pointing us back to our passion.
